(Harpagophytum procumbens)

Description:
Perennial herbaceous plant of Southern Africa, of the Savannah and of the Kalahari desert. In the Bushmen tribes it is used to aid digestion.
Its name derives from the fact that if the animals prick themselves with the protrusions of the roots of the plant, they jump like devils in pain.

Contains:
Iridoid nucleus heterosides (harpagoside, bitter, excellent analgesic and spasmolytic; harpagide and procumbide), b-sitosterol (inhibitor of the inflammatory process), terpenic acids, flavonoids, abundant stachyose, harpagoquinone, benzoquinone (anti-inflammatory and analgesic), glucokinine ( hypoglycaemic), amino acids.

Pharmacodynamic action:
Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, spasmolytic, antirheumatic, antidyspeptic, antifebrile, antiallergic.
